Where do I find student credit cards?
- Citi Cards have a great student card program. Basically they have about 3 or 4 options that help you save or give back with each use. And they are designed with students in mind. I believe they even have one that saves you can get 10% back if you use it on books, supplies, etc for school. This is the one I used years ago when I did not really have credit and was still in college. Also, Discover Card is another great option, but be aware that a lot of places may not use Discover Card
- Go to bankrate.com, choose the Credit Cards tab. Under "Compare Credit Card Rates, c on Select by credit card type <search>. On the right, choose the credit card type - Student Card - <update> and compare the cards to see which is best for you. There is a Calculators on on the blue line above the tabs. From there you can play around with balances and how much interest you would pay if you charge a lot but only pay the minimum. Also, please go to myfico.com, c on Credit Education. Read all you can, because what you do not know CAN hurt you. You are also en led by law to a free credit report once a year from EACH of the three major credit bureaus. I recommend you check each bureau once a year, a different one every four months. The only site to get a totally free credit report is annualcreditreport.com. I am a parent who went back to college. In my Speech cl, I decided to give a speech about credit, since most of the students were college kids and need to know this information. And there was even one lady in her 30's who did not know some of what I spoke about, such as being careful about closing cards you do not use any more and how it can affect your FICO score. Educate yourself about this topic and you will be ahead of the game. Good luck!
- There are many places you can find credit cards. I am somewhat surprised as the credit card companies commonly go directly to campuses to get students to signup.
